Journal of the Passage of Time

Most of my drawings begin outdoors as contour drawings, which are created by tracing the silhouette of a plant shadow onto my drawing paper. I draw quickly as the sun is moving fast across the sky, performing a kind of dance as my body revolves around the specimen.

The resulting line drawing becomes a portrait of the plant captured in a moment of time. Once the initial sketch is complete, I return to the studio and use my imagination to complete the drawing.
