COUNTING BIRDS: OCD ORNITHOLOGY I’ve always counted birds–on a wire, in flight or swimming in the water–it’s a personal obsession. In 2004 I began photographing the bird life on the LA River in Atwater Village and counting the prints, which evolved into a desktop installation for a one person show in 2018.
UPDATE–CITIZEN SCIENCE In 2019 there was a massive die-off of ducks, geese and other water birds on the LA River from avian botulism. Counting Birds: OCD Ornithology became a document of the abundant bird life on the LA River prior to that catastrophic event.
